Our foundation
Spring Valley Church is a born-again, Spirit-filled Pentecostal church, affiliated to Assemblies of God Great Britain. Our beliefs are rooted in the authority of Scripture and shaped by the gospel of Jesus Christ. What follows is our Statement of Faith, and the vision, mission and core values that guide our life together.
Our Statement of Faith
The inspired Word of God
We believe that the Bible (i.e., the Old and New Testaments, excluding the Apocrypha) is the inspired Word of God, the infallible, all-sufficient rule for faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:21
The unity of the One True and Living God
We believe in the unity of the One True and Living God, who is the Eternal, Self-Existent “I AM” who has also revealed Himself as One being co-existing in three Persons – Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14
The life of Jesus
We believe in the virgin birth, sinless life, miraculous ministry, substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension and abiding intercession of the Lord Jesus Christ and His personal, visible, bodily return in power and glory as the blessed hope of all believers.
Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 24:39; Acts 1:9, 2:22 and 10:38; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:4, 22-24 and 51-57; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 4:8-10; 1 Peter 2:22; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Hebrews 7:25-26 and 9:12; Revelation 20:1-6
The fall of man
We believe in the fall of man, who was created pure and upright but fell by voluntary transgression.
Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21
Salvation through faith
We believe in salvation through faith in Christ, who, according to the Scriptures, died for our sins, was buried and was raised from the dead on the third day, and through His Blood, we have Redemption.
Titus 2:11, 3:5-7; Romans 10:8-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
New birth
This experience is also known as the new birth and is an instantaneous and complete operation of the Holy Spirit upon initial faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 3:5-6; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 5:1
Baptism by immersion in water
We believe that all who have truly repented and believed in Christ as Lord and Saviour are commanded to be baptised by immersion in water.
Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 2:38-39
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an enduement of the believer with power for service, the essential, biblical evidence of which is the speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
Acts 1:4-5, 8, 2:4, 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 19:6
The gifts of the Holy Spirit
We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of Christ in the Church today.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28; Ephesians 4:7-16
Holiness of life
We believe in the holiness of life and conduct in obedience to the command of God.
1 Peter 1:14-16; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 John 2:6
Divine healing
We believe that deliverance from sickness, by Divine Healing, is provided for in the Atonement.
Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:13-16
Breaking of bread
We believe that all who have truly repented and believe in Christ as Lord and Saviour should regularly participate in the Breaking of Bread.
Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:20-34
Resurrection of all who truly believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the everlasting conscious bliss of all who truly believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and the everlasting conscious punishment of all whose names are not written in the Book of Life.
Daniel 12:2-3; John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15:22-24; Matthew 25:46; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Revelation 20:10-15
Our vision
Spring Valley Church is committed to:
- Equipping God’s people by fostering a relationship with Christ.
- Enriching everyone to mature in Christ.
- Enlarging the Body of Christ through witnessing.
Our mission
- Focused on equipping the Body of Christ for service by encouraging everyone to hear God and speak to God regularly through worship, prayer, and meditation on God’s Word individually and corporately, yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit.
- Responsible for each other by acknowledging everyone’s equal status in Christ, regardless of differences. Demonstrating Christ’s compassion to those facing hardships and spiritual struggles (despite their background and affiliations). Recognising the local community’s needs and dealing with them through partnership.
- United in Christ with the bond of love established through fellowship and caring for each other. Accepting everyone with a non-judgmental attitude regardless of differences. Willing to serve, encourage and comfort others. Networking with individuals and communities sharing biblical faith, values and ethos.
- Influenced by God’s specific call, engage in God’s mission actively, spontaneously, and passionately with accountability and cooperation. Effectively share the gospel with respect and sensitivity towards others.
- Thriving individually: grow in Christlikeness by systematically learning and applying the principles of God’s Word in all walks of life. And corporately: be a community guided by the Holy Spirit to help grow every segment of the body of Christ. Help each other to discover spiritual gifts and exercise them for the edification of the body of Christ with humility, led by the Spirit.
Our core values
- Submissive to the authority of the Word of God.
- Christ is the head of the Church, and the corporate body consists of members equipped for service through apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists.
- Fully accepting the Lordship of Christ in all areas of individual life.
- Encourage every community member to practice integrity and transparency in all individual and combined activities of the church.
- Maintain good relationships with like-minded believers, individuals, churches and organisations. Local fellowship is a family of individuals united in Christ and thereby united to the universal Body of Christ.
- Always prioritise spiritual nourishment and discourage any activities or relationships that will hamper unity in Christ, brotherly love, and relationships with each other.
- Actively engage in the life of the local community, indiscriminately offering necessary support driven by the love of Christ without expecting anything in return.
