Short answer

Yes. Jesus is fully God and fully human. He is the eternal Son of God who took on flesh, lived among us, died and rose again. The Bible calls Him God, He accepted worship, and His resurrection confirmed His claims.

What the Bible says

John opens his Gospel with these words: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1), and then explains that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). The Word is Jesus.

When Thomas saw the risen Jesus he said, My Lord and my God! (John 20:28) Jesus accepted it. Paul writes that in Christ the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily (Colossians 2:9). The Bible does not hint at this; it says it plainly.

What Jesus did

Jesus did things that only God can do. He forgave sins, which the religious leaders rightly noted was God’s prerogative (Mark 2:5-7). He commanded the wind and waves. He raised the dead. He said, Before Abraham was, I am (John 8:58), using the name God gave Himself at the burning bush, and His hearers picked up stones because they understood exactly what He meant.

Fully God, fully man

Jesus was not half-God and half-man. He was truly human: He grew tired, hungry and sad, and He died. He was also truly God: eternal, sinless and all-powerful. Christians have always held both together, because the Bible does. Only someone who is both could stand between God and us and bring us together.

That is why it matters. If Jesus were only a good man, His death could not pay for anyone’s sins but His own. Because He is God, His sacrifice is enough for the whole world.

How this connects across the Bible

The Bible is one story. Here is how this theme runs from the Old Testament to Jesus:

  • God revealed His name to Moses as “I AM” (Exodus 3:14); Jesus applies that name to Himself (John 8:58).
  • Isaiah foresaw a child called Mighty God and Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6); the same prophet says God alone is Saviour (Isaiah 43:11), and the angel names Jesus “Saviour” (Luke 2:11).
  • The Psalms address the King as God whose throne is for ever (Psalm 45:6-7); Hebrews applies those words to the Son (Hebrews 1:8).
  • Isaiah says every knee will bow to the LORD (Isaiah 45:23); Paul says every knee will bow to Jesus (Philippians 2:10-11).

What we believe at Spring Valley

We believe in the unity of the one true and living God, who is the eternal, self-existent “I AM”, and who has revealed Himself as one being co-existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Son, fully God, and we worship Him.
